The NEW LIFE COMMUNITY is a residential Christian discipleship program located at Seattle First Presbyterian Church. This Christian community serves only 6 men at any given time. Our main purpose is to help men leave old, destructive patterns behind and assist our residents in creating achievable new goals for a healthy, productive life. One primary ingredient to a new life is a willingness to change and grow. This is one of the main characteristics we look for in an individual during the interview process.
Following in the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Mission of the New Life Community is to be a life transforming instrument in the lives of broken yet willing men. Our purpose is to see lives of biblical manhood cultivated in which pasts are redeemed and individuals are created who passionately give their lives for the peace and prosperity of their families.
“What would you do if all the odds were against you?”
No money, no home, no job, no support.
“What would you need if you have the willingness and commitment to leave bad choices behind and start a new life?”
These are the questions a group of Seattle First Presbyterian Church volunteers asked themselves in the summer of 2002. They had already opened their doors to the city’s homeless, providing meals and a warm place to sleep once a week, but they felt the need to open those doors further. They were compelled to help the few men they had met who were finally willing. The men who were willing to do whatever it would take to leave a destructive, dead end way of life behind and begin the journey toward a new life.
Two years later, SFPC opened their own basement to be transformed by the hard work of these volunteers. It would be a residence for six men at a time who were experiencing some major transition in their lives. With basic needs provided for, these men could begin to acquire the tools needed to begin rebuilding their lives.
Currently residents of New Life Community are using skills in video editing, and music to contribute to the SFPC community. All photography on this web site was produced by the director of the New Life Community, Jace Allen.
